Walleyes are found in three of our four main fishing lakes. Walleyes are very abundant throughout South Trout Lake, Favourable Lake, and Setting Net Lake, they average 18-24 inches with some as high as 28-30 inches. This will provide lots of action for the experienced angler or even the newest angler. Even while fishing for walleyes, the chance at a trophy pike is not out of reach as many are caught attacking a walleye at boat side or on your hook while jigging.
In spring walleyes move close to rocks, sandy shorelines and creeks to spawn. After the spawn when the season opens walleyes are concentrated throughout these areas and feed heavily to replenish themselves. Fishing during this period of time can be highly productive resulting in high numbers of fish landed. The recommended lure at this time of year is a jig tipped with a soft plastic tail.
In summer as the water warms up and the days get longer walleyes tend to move to sunken reefs, rock points or submerged weed beds. Great success can be achieved by trolling crank-baits, twitching stick-baits over weeds or vertical jigging any of these locations.
